In a message to his Iraqi counterpart Major General Othman al-Ghanmi, Major General Baqeri hailed the successful organization of Arbaeen processions in calm and peace and with the participation of several million pilgrims despite the will of anti-Islam and domineering powers.
It once again showed the unity, power and insight of the Islamic Ummah against the enemies of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS), he said.
He further thanked the people, government, senior clerics and armed forces for setting the ground for holding the processions and hosting the pilgrims very well.
Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
Arbaeen fell on October 19 this year.
